Some people have one great dream in life which they fail to fulfil.
Others have no dream at all and fail to fulfil even that.
in Bernardo Soares’ The Book of Disquiet
What is light without darkness?
A blind darkness of its own?
What is darkness without light?
A self-cannibalising king without a crown?
And now you tell me love is black
Attracting many a one
Into the vortex of evading
To be the lonely One, to be alone.
You tell me of a galactic symphony
Of tiny bits of colours lost into a major throng,
Reflected here and there or sang
Miraculously in too many poems, many a song.
You tell me we all could be black,
Absorbing all light, all colour until one is gone.
And I tell you we absorb what we lack.
We absorb love in our anger.
We look for water in our thirst.
We hunger for food when all energy is lost.
We long for what is yonder
When we are here.
We get to sleep because there is no rest.
Let them be violent reds and everlasting blues!
Let them be others!
Let them be not mine; let them be ever yous!
And you want to be queen,
To have them dance purely around purple,
Making the world only green.
I grin.
You want children around you in a dance
Because on the way the orchestra was left behind.
You long for the infancy music, the trance.
You dream.
